- Filipowksi, Herschell Phillips
- (1816-72)British Hebraist, editor and actuary. He was born in Lithuania and emigrated to London in 1839, where he taught at a Jewish school. He was the editor of the Hebrew annual Ha-Asif from 1847 to 1849. In 1851 he founded a Jewish antiquarian society for the purpose of publishing medieval Hebrew texts on which he wrote various studies. In 1862 he printed a pocket edition of the prayerbook. His Biblical Prophecies discusses the Jewish view of prophecy and messianism.
